Auchinleck Primary remember the Holocaust 2026
Throughout January 2026 our 21 P6 and 25 P7 pupils will study the years between 1933 and 1940 to learn how Jews were persecuted by Adolf Hitler’s Nazi regime through the implementation of the Nuremberg Laws which led to Kristallnacht and the establishment of ghettos and concentration camps. Using non fiction and fiction picture books, novels and graphic novels we will consider how life changed for young people during these years and through survivor testimonies we will look at the journeys taken by child refugees on Kindertransport as well as the people who helped them escape from the Nazis. Resources from HMDT, HET, SJHC and Gathering the Voices will support staff in delivering our Holocaust lessons. We will bring survivors into our classrooms through online events organised by HMDT and Anne FrankTrust UK. A group of pupils will deliver a presentation at East Ayrshire Council Headquarters as part of their HMD event. P7 pupils will visit Garnethill synagogue and the Scottish Jewish Heritage Centre in Glasgow. Pupils will be provided with information packs to take home and share with the families together with a candle to light at 8pm on Holocaust Memorial Day.
