To A Child Refugee in a Foreign Land

Grete Rudkin (nee Glauber) was born in Vienna in 1930. In 1939, her mother Elsa sent Grete to England on the Kindertransport, and she began a new life in Enfield under the care of Olive Rudkin

This display featuring a new set of acquisitions explores the relationship between Grete and her adopted mother Olive. It includes never seen before photos of Grete during her first years in London, through to their later years together. The poem “To A Child Refugee in a Foreign Land” written by Olive is presented in the borough for the first time.
