We held an event to mark the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau which included talks, from local activists presentation from students at Coleg Sir Gar and the viewing of a recording made by one of our organisers of an interview with a couple from Poland in December 2024. The gentleman was just 4 years old when he had been placed in a concentration camp and 8 when he was released. His wife had been a child in Poland and was subjected to regular attacks from members of the Hitler youth and other Nazi groups.
In attendance were a number of civic dignitaries including the Chairs of Carmarthenshire County Council, Llanelli Rural Council, Mayors of Llanelli Town Council and Pembrey and Burry Port Town Council. We also had representatives from a number of other authorities as well as the HMD Trust, TUC Cymru and local schools and colleges.
Attendees were given refreshments and an opportunity to network after the event.
