For Holocaust Memorial Day 2014, of the 434 local authorities in the UK, a total of 211 put on an event to commemorate the occasion or had an important role in supporting one. While this is an impressive figure, accounting for nearly half of district, borough and county councils and 37 more than last year, there's still plenty of work to be done.

This is where you can come in. By filling out this simple form with your name, email address and post code, you can email your local authority councillor either asking them to put on an HMD event for next year if they did not do so for 2014, or thanking them if they did and requesting that they continue to show their support.

The form will automatically detect whether an event was organised by your local authority in January, while also giving you the opportunity to personalise the message too.  You could say why HMD is so important to you or perhaps add a suggestion as to what sort of event could be organised.

Next year’s HMD is especially significant as it marks the 70th anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp, as well as 20 years since the Genocide in Bosnia.  By acting now, we can make sure that the number of local authorities commemorating this very important day increases for 2015.
