80 Candles for 80 Years

What is the project?

For Holocaust Memorial Day (HMD) 2025, there will be a digital exhibition of 80 bespoke candleholders designed and created by communities and organisations from across the UK that highlight the life of an individual or a community persecuted by the Nazis. This could be someone Jewish or someone from one of the other groups persecuted by the Nazis, such as the Roma, disabled people, or gay people.

The 80 candleholders will be showcased in a digital exhibition and will be part of local HMD activities. This project gives communities the chance to come together to create something bespoke, meaningful and memorable to mark the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, the largest Nazi concentration camp complex.

How can my community take part?

The deadline to apply to make one of the 80 candleholders has now passed. However, you can still get involved by designing your own candleholder and sharing it on social media for HMD 2025 using the hashtag #80Candles and tagging us.
