Wales comes together to mark Holocaust Memorial Day 2018
On Monday 29 January, the national service for Wales took place at Cardiff City Hall to mark Holocaust Memorial Day 2018.
Hosted by First Minister Carwyn Jones and the Leader of Cardiff Council Councillor Huw Thomas, the event was led by the Reverend Canon Stewart Lisk.
Lady Milena Grenfell-Baines MBE, who was one of the children to be saved from the Holocaust on the last train organised by Sir Nicholas Winton in 1939, spoke about her experiences. Other speakers included Dr Mukesh Kapila CBE, former United Nations Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in Sudan, and two school pupils from Ysgol Gyfun Gymraeg Plasmawr who spoke about their visit to Auschwitz-Birkenau.
Attendees heard the experiences of three survivors of the Holocaust; Anka Bergman, Terry Farago and Edith Salter. Music was performed by members of the Cardiff County and Vale of Glamorgan Youth Choir and extracts from the play Survivors by Gwynne Edwards was performed. 
After the service, guests were invited to share their thoughts and words on a Wall of Hope, which is to be displayed at Merthyr Tydfil Library.
