[Extra]Ordinary Portraits – A resource

This resource outlines an arts project in which students and young people learn about a person who has experienced identity-based discrimination or persecution – for example, a Holocaust or genocide survivor, or someone targeted in conflict or forced to migrate because of their identity – and create a portrait of this person. The resource includes suggested life stories, guidance on how to create a portrait and examples of portraits. Activities built around example portraits encourage reflection on how to convey a person’s background and experiences visually. Teachers and youth leaders can use the resource to facilitate an arts project or to organise a small arts competition. This resource allows students and young people to mark Holocaust Memorial Day through art.
