A Commemorative event open to the public, held in one of our Diocesan schools, St Mary's Catholic School, Benton Newcastle upon Tyne. The event was attended by our Bishop Stephen Wright and the Rabbi Aaron Lipsey from the United Hebrew Congregation.
Past genocides were remembered, Armenia 110 years, Holocaust 80 years, and Bosnia 30 years. We were fortunate to have two speakers, Mr David Gold, from the United Hebrew Congregation who spoke of his families escape from Nazi Germany before WW2 broke out and Smajo Beso OBE who spoke of his families experiences during the Bosnian War. Both families have made successful lives in Newcastle upon Tyne.
Prayers were said and candles lit in memory of all genocide victims. St Mary's School choir sang.
The attendance was better than anticipated and many were impressed by our speakers.
