HMDT Next Gen Ambassador Programme
The HMDT Next Gen Ambassador Programme is a prestigious programme by the Holocaust Memorial Day Trust (HMDT), designed to empower the next generation of leaders aged 18–25 to shape a future free from identity-based hatred and persecution.
As an ambassador, you will delve deeply into the history of the Holocaust, the Nazi persecution of other groups, and the genocides as recognised by the UK Government, which includes Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia, against the Yazidis and Darfur. Through immersive online sessions and expert-led workshops, you’ll explore how unchecked hatred can escalate and what you can do to prevent it.
This isn’t just about learning history, it’s about taking action. You will gain practical skills in public speaking, event planning, and leadership, and use them to design and deliver your own impactful Holocaust Memorial Day (HMD) activity or event. You’ll become a changemaker, equipped not only with knowledge, but with the tools to engage others and challenge identity-based hatred in your communities.
As a HMDT Next Gen Ambassador, you’ll gain:
- Eight expert-led learning sessions exploring the Holocaust, other genocides, and the mechanisms of hate
- Exclusive guest speakers from global experts and survivors of different genocides
- Integrated training in public speaking, leadership, and event planning
- 1-to-1 mentoring to support the design and delivery of your own HMD event or activity
- An in-person graduation and celebration of your work with special guests and VIPs
- The opportunity to join the HMDT Youth Forum, shaping future programmes and speaking at national events
What we ask of you:
We’re looking for committed, curious, and compassionate individuals who want to make a difference. To succeed as an ambassador, you will:
- Attend all monthly online learning sessions
- Organise or support at least one HMD event or activity
- Contribute to a respectful, inclusive community of peers
- Commit to continuing the remembrance and awareness of the genocides you learn about- inspiring the next generations to continue this important work

FAQ:
Who do I contact with questions about the programme?
You can contact our Education and Youth Outreach Officer at [email protected].
What happens after I graduate the programme?
Graduates from the programme will be invited to apply for a 2-year term on our Youth Board. Being on the board provides further opportunities to speak at events, support the development of resources and support the new cohort of youth programme participants. If you do not wish to apply for the board but still wish to remain involved with HMDT, you can join the HMDT Alumni group, where information will be shared and connections will be maintained. There will also be a variety of different volunteering opportunities available throughout the year.
I’m not 18 yet, can I still apply?
If you will be 18 by 1 September 2025 (at the start of the academic year) we will still consider your application. However, you must prove your age upon being offered a place. If you will not be 18 by this date, please apply another year.
I would like to join the programme but I am not certain I will be able to attend all of the sessions. Can I still apply?
By joining HMDT Next Gen Ambassador Programme, you will be expected to attend every session. We understand that unexpected situations may arise, and you may be unable to attend a session. In this case, you must first contact the Education and Youth Outreach Officer to discuss. Repeated failure to attend sessions may result in your removal from the programme. The expectation is that you will attend all of the sessions, however, if this becomes an issue the Outreach Education and Youth Officer will work with you to find the best solution.
What if I need help organising my HMD activity?
You will have support from a Youth Board member and the Education and Youth Outreach Officer when organising your activity.
