In November 2024 Space 4 participants worked alongside artist Mary Watson to create a candleholder inspired by the life story of Henry Wuga MBE who escaped Nazi Germany on the Kindertransport, was evacuated then interned. He settled and married in Glasgow to a fellow Kindertransportee, gave back to the community and educated thousands on the Holocaust.

The group designed visual representations to show moments of Wuga's life experience which have been hand painted onto the surface of the candleholder. They chose a white background with blue imagery to reference Dutch Deltware pottery, Holland being the first stop on Wuga's journey to the UK.

The project was delivered by Culture House Sunderland with support from The Cultural Spring and Space 4, with thanks to Sunderland Libraries and ceramic artist Mary Watson.

The exhibition was displayed at the Creative Smart City Hub Houghton from Monday 27 January.
