Holocaust Educational Evening.
Recent studies indicate that 83% of young people today express an interest in learning more about the Holocaust, presenting educators with a valuable opportunity to teach the historical realities of Nazi propaganda, indoctrination, and systematic brainwashing that culminated in the murder of six million Jews.
Antisemitic teachings aimed at the dehumanisation of Europe’s Jewish population predated the Nazi seizure of power but were significantly intensified through a programme known as Nazification from 1920 onwards. The Nazi Party deliberately targeted German youth as part of a broader strategy of ideological indoctrination, encouraging children and adolescents to join organisations collectively known as the Hitler Youth. Boys and girls between the ages of ten and seventeen were enrolled in age- and gender-specific groups under this umbrella.
By 1933, the Hitler Youth had approximately two million members, a figure that increased to 5.4 million by 1939. Within these organisations, children were taught the centrality of racial purity and the supposed threat that Jewish ancestry posed to the goal of preserving a so-called Aryan race. This education fostered racial consciousness, encouraging young people to regard those who were not classified as Aryan as inferior or subhuman.
Jewish educators were systematically removed from all levels of the education system, and the indoctrination programme was rigorously implemented by remaining teaching staff. Children were instructed in pseudo-scientific methods of identifying Jews through physical characteristics and were conditioned to believe that Jews were their enemies and a threat to the Volk, a term used to denote the German people, whom Nazi ideology portrayed as racially superior to all others.
