Annual Commemoration of Victims of Genocide in every time and every place. organised by Loughborough Council of Faiths.
This always takes place on 27th January and normally everyone present is invited to place a pebble on a granite stone in Queens Park, Loughborough, after a reading by the Mayor of the Commitment by the Borough.
This year however, because of high winds the park was closed for public safety and the ceremony took place in the nearby United Reformed Church.
90 people attended. The Mayor read the Commitment and then two people were invited to speak briefly. The first spoke about his family in Holland killed by the Nazis. The second spoke about the current killing of people in Gaza. His wife read a moving poem "Mama write my name on my leg". Because it was not possible to place any pebbles, people present were invited to see two small photographs of two grandmothers, one with her 9 year old son, killed by the Nazis.
