Postscript is a concert to be hosted in honour of Holocaust Memorial Day in 2025, combining music and testimony of Holocaust survivors, victims and those affected. In holding a space for education and memorial, we aim to highlight the importance of accessibility to Holocaust testimony and musical artefacts as a means of humanising a history which is traditionally taught according to its magnitude rather than its individual human cost.
In doing this, we are bringing rarely performed music to the forefront, fulfilling our aim of engaging with both RBC's community and the wider community Birmingham through culturally diverse and representative programmes.
Additionally, this event aims to address the importance of musical performance as a historical artefact.
Music is often presented in exhibitions in physical form, which immediately prevents the non-musically trained population from interacting with it on a deeper level. Music is useful evidence that communicates lived experiences, giving insight into an individual composer's nature and identity without the barrier of language, which often inhibits ease of access to physical artefacts.
This event will be the first of its kind for RBC, and we hope that it will set a precedent for further educational events to be created.
This programme is supported by a grant from The Association of Jewish Refugees (AJR).
