Sacred Heart Catholic Primary, Atherton. "Building Bridges" 2026

Pupils were involved in a workshop : "Building Bridges" in preparation for their participation in the Leigh Town Hall HMD Commemoration on Tuesday 27th January, 2026 ( National Holocaust Memorial Day). They were able to learn about the meaning of "Generations" & using their iPads they did research on various Survivors of The Holocaust; Cambodia, Rawanda, Bosnia & Dafur.
Once they had chosen the person they were
"building a bridge" to get to know they wrote their own name & DOB on the BRIDGE Booklet & then added the name of the Survivor & their DOB. Then we all made a "Commitment Statement" : I WILL BUILD A BRIDGE AND PROMISE TO TELL YOUR STORY" The pupils coloured in the Bridge Booklet & attached it to our "Tree of Peace"
We said our new Statement of Commitment out loud and on our "Focus Table" our teachers put out various HMD candles. Once the candles had been lighted we had a quiet reflection on all that we had learned.
We are looking forward to sharing what we learned with our families and at home on the 27th January at 8 pm we are joining in with the National " Light the Darkness" Event as a way of showing we are standing together against prejudice & hatred.
