Holocaust Memorial Day (HMD) takes place each year on 27th January.

Each year, HMD is shaped by a specific theme that guides how we remember, reflect, and learn.

The theme for HMD 2026 is Bridging Generations

The theme is a reminder that the responsibility of remembrance does not end with the survivors. It lives on through their children, their grandchildren, and through all of us. This theme encourages us to engage actively with the past: to listen, to learn and to carry those lessons forward. In doing so, we build a bridge between memory and action, between history and hope for the future.

You are invited to join us at Oldham’s Holocaust Memorial Day commemorative event on:
Tuesday, 27 January 2026 at Saint John Henry Newman Catholic College, Broadway, Chadderton, Oldham, OL9 9QY.
10:00am – 11:45am (Prompt start).
Arrival from 9:30am

(All guests are requested to present themselves at the school reception by 9:30am due to safeguarding procedures. You will then be escorted to the school hall by a member of staff).
The event will close at 11:45am.

The event will be opened by The Worshipful, The Mayor of Oldham Metropolitan Borough, Councillor Eddie Moores.

Joining us this year is Marianne Philipps. Marianne is a first-generation survivor and came to the UK from Berlin on the Kindertransport. There will also be presentations by pupils from The Saint John Henry Newman Catholic College and Oldham Youth Council.
