HMD Ceremony 2025 Wins RTS Award and Secures BAFTA Nomination

HMD Ceremony 2025 Wins RTS Award and Secures BAFTA Nomination

We are proud to announce that the UK National Holocaust Memorial Day Ceremony 2025, broadcast by the BBC and watched by over 2 million viewers, has won the Live Event category at the Royal Television Society (RTS) Programme Awards, alongside being nominated for the BAFTA Television Awards.

Last year’s Holocaust Memorial Day marked a particularly significant milestone as the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, and the National Ceremony was a powerful moment of reflection across the UK. Held at The Guildhall in the City of London, it was attended by Their Royal Highnesses The Prince and Princess of Wales and the Prime Minister, Sir Keir Starmer MP, alongside other members of the Cabinet, faith and civic leaders, celebrities and survivors.

The National Ceremony is a poignant tribute to the 6 million Jewish men, women and children murdered during the Holocaust and the millions more who were murdered under the Nazi persecution of other communities. The BBC’s broadcast of the Ceremony enabled its vital messages of remembrance, education and standing against hatred to reach audiences across the UK, amplifying its impact nationwide.

Olivia Marks-Woldman OBE, Chief Executive of the Holocaust Memorial Day Trust, said:

“We are incredibly proud that the UK National Holocaust Memorial Day Ceremony has won the RTS Programme Award for best Live Event. This recognition reflects the dedication of all involved in embedding this moment of collective remembrance across audiences nationwide.

“At a time of rising antisemitism and growing prejudice in our communities, it is more important than ever to bring people together – whether in person or through the power of broadcast into homes across the UK. We are deeply grateful to the BBC for helping bring the Ceremony into the hearts and minds of the nation, and we eagerly await the BAFTA Television Awards in May.”

Other nominees in the category are ‘VE Day 80: A Celebration to Remember’ and ‘Last Night of the Proms: Finale’.
