HMDT statement on Nazi rhetoric in the US
Following concerning reports of a white supremacist group in the US using Nazi rhetoric, Olivia Marks-Woldman, Chief Executive of the Holocaust Memorial Day Trust has made the following statement.
‘We are gravely concerned about the recent Nazi rhetoric made by white supremacists in America. Such language is dangerous and intimidating, and has no place in civilised society. In the UK, thousands of people are preparing for HMD 2017 by reflecting on the theme How can life go on? – a question that confronts the difficulties in rebuilding post-Holocaust and post-Genocide whilst ideologies such as these persist. At the Holocaust Memorial Day Trust, we know that the thousands of local HMD events in January will bring people together, not pull them apart; where participants will reflect on the past, not trivialise or deny it; and where we will seek to build a future that is safer and better, not one that is fractured, vulnerable and divided.’
