His Majesty The King announces visit to Auschwitz for Holocaust Memorial Day 2025
His Majesty King Charles III is to attend an historic event in Poland to mark the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau next month.
His Majesty The King has accepted an invitation to join Holocaust survivors and representatives from more than 20 countries at the event to mark Holocaust Memorial Day on 27 January. He will be the first British monarch to visit the former Nazi concentration camp.
His Majesty has maintained deep connections with Holocaust survivors, as well as with the Jewish community. We are very proud of his Patronage of the Holocaust Memorial Day Trust.
A source said: “The King’s respect both for and from the Jewish community, as well as his work fostering community cohesion throughout his life, is well known and he will be welcomed to the commemorations. The King has worked for many years to promote tolerance and greater understanding between different faiths and communities, poignant subjects on such an anniversary.”
2025 marks the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau and the 30th anniversary of the genocide in Bosnia.
