Landmarks to Light the Darkness

We are inviting landmarks, buildings and community spaces across the UK to light up in purple for Holocaust Memorial Day at 8pm on Tuesday 27 January 2026, as part of our national Light the Darkness moment.

Landmarks to Light the Darkness

Light the Darkness is a moment for the nation to come together — to remember the darkness of the past and to create light together, standing united against prejudice and hatred today.

Last year, over 200 iconic landmarks took part in Light the Darkness – from cathedrals and castles to stadiums and civic buildings – with coverage across major media outlets including BBC News and Sky News.

This year’s theme, Bridging Generations, encourages us to listen, learn and share stories across generations, ensuring the lessons of the past are never forgotten.

How to get involved

If you work for a local authority, organisation, business or venue with lighting capability, please:

• Light your building in purple at 8pm on 27 January 2026.

• Add your details to our national activity map to show your support and inspire others (coming soon to our website)

• If you would like to order HMD candles to display or sell at your venue, you can find out more here.  For bulk or venue orders, please contact [email protected].

By lighting your building, you will be joining communities across the UK to remember, reflect and stand against prejudice, and to Light the Darkness.

Thank you for your support.
