Each year we host a young person from Austria, who is working in Holocaust education and commemoration as part of the Austrian Gedenkdienst programme. Here we explain the importance of the programme to our work and are given an insight into the life of our current Gedenkdiener, Jakob.

Brian Steidle was a US monitor attached to the African Union peacekeeping mission in Sudan. Paul Grüninger was a policeman and footballer in Switzerland who helped thousands of Austrian Jews fleeing persecution. He illegally allowed them to cross the border to Switzerland between August 1938 and April 1939. He was recognised as a Righteous Among the Nations in 1971, a year before his death.
