Each year thousands of local activities take place across the UK to mark Holocaust Memorial Day (HMD).
Many senior Nazi war criminals were never sentenced for their roles during the Holocaust. Some, like Adolf Hitler and Heinrich Himmler committed suicide as the war came to an end. Many escaped Germany and were never found. However, international efforts to bring those responsible for the Holocaust to justice began after the war and have continued into recent years.

We’re delighted to announce the winners of our art competition for HMD 2014 – Drawing Inspiration. Entries were made in three ages categories, all with a different focus around the theme for HMD 2014 Journeys.
Young journalist Valentine Mauray joined a trip to Auschwitz-Birkenau, Sachenhausen and Oranienburg camps as part of a project organised by Maximilian Kolbe Werk, a German association supporting and raising awareness of the experience of camp survivors.
