The Holocaust, Nazi persecution of other groups, and subsequent genocides in Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia and Darfur had specific impacts on some faith communities, meaning HMD has a special resonance for many faiths. HMD can be marked by all faith communities.
The Postcard Project for Holocaust Memorial Day 2019 explored the theme: Torn from home. Participants learned about the life stories of survivors who were forced to flee their homes during the Holocaust and the Genocide in Cambodia, and wrote a message to them.

On 30 June 1940, the Nazis began their invasion of the Channel Islands – a group of British Crown dependency islands off the coast of France. This was the result of the German invasion of Western Europe. From May 1940, Nazi troops had been moving west. They captured Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg and France in quick succession, with Paris falling to the Germans on 14 June 1940.
