The Holocaust, Nazi persecution of other groups, and subsequent genocides in Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia and Darfur had specific impacts on some faith communities, meaning HMD has a special resonance for many faiths. HMD can be marked by all faith communities.

The Postcard Project for Holocaust Memorial Day 2019 explored the theme: Torn from home. Participants learned about the life stories of survivors who were forced to flee their homes during the Holocaust and the Genocide in Cambodia, and wrote a message to them.

On 2 May 1933, just three months after Adolf Hitler’s appointment as Chancellor of Germany, the SA and police occupied the offices of German Trade Unions, seizing control of them.
