Marianne Grant

Marianne Grant was a young artist from Prague. Having survived Theresienstadt, Auschwitz-Birkenau, and the final days of Bergen-Belsen concentration camps, using her skills as an artist to survive, she came to Glasgow where she raised her family.

HMDT blog: five ways to mark HMD at your museum, gallery or heritage site

Holocaust Memorial Day (HMD) offers museums, galleries and heritage sites the opportunity to bring their communities together to reflect on lessons from the past and remember the 6 million Jews murdered during the Holocaust, and millions more people murdered through the Nazi persecution of other groups and in the more recent genocides recognised by the UK government. We also mark the genocide in Darfur.

HMD impact at HMP Magilligan

In 2015, inmates at HMP Magilligan created a Holocaust Memorial Day exhibition where members of the local community in Limavady, Northern Ireland, could learn about the Holocaust and more recent genocides. Each year, for HMD, inmates give tours of the exhibition to local children.
