Bridging Generations an event held by Staffs Moorlands DC and Leek Town Council

As he has done for several years now Staffordshire Moorlands District Councillor and Communities Portfolio holder Bill Cawley has organised the annual National Holocaust Memorial Day on Saturday January 24th at 2pm which this year will be held at All Saints Church, Compton, Leek, ST13 5PT
The event which is coordinated by the National Holocaust Memorial Trust this year will have as a theme “Bridging Generations. The event takes place near the liberation of Auschwitz Concentration Camp by the Red Army on 27th January 1945.
Given the nature of the theme the organisers of the event have reached out to local schools passing on the need to remember the millions of Jews, as well as other groups, who were murdered by the Nazis during World War 2
The event will also promotes standing out against intolerance and the persecution of others because of difference today
Aiding in the act of remembrance will be Lesley Urbach of Generation 2 Generation a holocaust educational charity who will tell the story of the persecution of her Jewish family and friends during the time of the Third Reich in Germany
The use of survivor testimony keeps Holocaust stories alive and promotes the importance of inclusivity and human rights
Endon resident Terry James has written two songs especially for Holocaust Memorial Day which reinforce the need to pass on the knowledge of the past to new generations and to keep vigilant against the designs of tyrants who preach bigotry and prejudice
Chair of District Council Councillor Adam Parkes will give his recollections of visiting Auschwitz and its impact on his faith
Councillor Bill Cawley said that the theme of Bridging Generations is a reminder that the responsibility of remembrance requires all to act
“As a historian we need to engage actively with the past – to listen, to learn and to carry those lessons forward. By doing so, we build a bridge between memory and action, between history and hope for the future “
“I would like to thank Dr Hope for allowing the event at his wonderful church”
