Stevenage Borough Council will host a Holocaust Memorial Day commemoration on Tuesday 27 January 2026, 6.30pm–9.00pm (guests invited to arrive from 6.00pm and be seated by 6.15pm). The service will take place in the Council Chamber at Daneshill House, Stevenage, followed by refreshments and informal reflection time afterwards.

The event will mark Holocaust Memorial Day 2026 and reflect the national theme “Bridging Generations”, bringing together civic leaders, community representatives and young people to remember the six million Jews murdered during the Holocaust and all those affected by genocide, and to consider how we challenge prejudice and hatred today.

The programme will include:

Welcome and introduction
Addresses from civic and community representatives
A presentation on survivor testimony and intergenerational memory
A poem read by the Youth Mayor and Deputy Youth Mayor
Screening of the Holocaust Memorial Day Trust film It Began With Words
Prayer and memorial candle-lighting led by a Student Rabbi, with dignitaries invited to light candles during the ceremony
Closing remarks

Post-service refreshments and an opportunity for quiet reflection and conversation
