Our Borough is marking the 25th Anniversary of Holocaust Memorial Day by holding a Commemoration Event in the Atrium at Wigan Town Hall. Our Guest Speaker is Alison Cooper from the Northern Holocaust Education Group and she is sharing the story of her Mother, Judis Singer ( Judith Waxman) .

There will also be Art Displays from our borough 's participation in the "80 Candles for 80 Years" Nationwide Arts Education Exhibition as well as a choir performance from St Oswald's Catholic Primary School, Ashton-In-Makerfield, Wigan.

Readings as well as Poetry contributed by Leigh Paper Back Writers will be on the programme as well as the Mayor Cllr Jenny Bullen lighting the Memorial Candle. She will lead us all in the Affirmation of the National Statement of Commitment.

We will be encouraging all attendees to join in with the National "Light the Darkness" at
8 pm. Both Wigan & Leigh Town Halls will be lit up purple, joining in with other Towns & Cities whose iconic buildings will turn purple following the Countdown which can be followed by logging into the HMD website.

Closing our Ceremony we will be showing the "80 Candles" film : A story of a Survivor in every Flame. Our "Take Action" Statement will is to " Be a BRIDGE & REMEMBER the lives of Jewish people who were murdered as well as those who survived & went on to live remarkable lives".
