This blog was written for HMDT by Sue Bermange, a member of the '45 Aid Society and the second generation, as both of her parents were survivors of the Holocaust.

Renie Inow was 10 years old when she travelled alone on the Kindertransport in 1939, leaving her parents behind in Germany. She continued to receive letters from them until 1939. Renie still has these letters, and some of them are shared here.

Sir Nicholas Winton was born in Hampstead, London in 1909. For nine months in 1939 he rescued 669 children from Czechoslovakia, bringing them to the UK, thereby sparing them from the horrors of the Holocaust. Sir Nicholas died in July 2015, aged 106.

Hope lost family members in the Genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda. Today, as a founder of the Mashirika Performing Arts Media Company, Hope uses the arts to explore the legacy of Genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda.

In April 2016, a group of staff members from HMDT went on a learning trip to Poland. Over three days, they visited Kraków and the site of the Kraków Ghetto, Oświęcim and Auschwitz I and Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camps.
