In this photo blog, photographer Mussa Uwitonze, who survived the genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda, presents a selection of photographs which offer us a snapshot of his life in Rwanda. Through these images, Mussa reflects on overcoming the past, and how photography, meeting his wife and having children transformed his life and gave him hope for the future.

Our Memorial pages have been created to honour and remember all those who endured the Holocaust, Nazi persecution of other groups, and in the genocides in Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia and Darfur.

Climate change is having an enormous impact on our world, changing it profoundly. The connection to mass violence and atrocities produces some of its most dangerous effects. Detmer Kremer, Policy and Communications Coordinator at Protection Approaches, visited us at the Holocaust Memorial Day Trust recently. He shared learnings from Protection Approaches’ work exploring the impact of climate change on identity-based violence, and gave advice on what we can all do to help prevent it.
