Political, faith and civic leaders and celebrities join survivors to attend our UK National Ceremony marking Holocaust Memorial Day 2026.

To mark Holocaust Memorial Day 2025, the BBC will host a wide range of progamming across TV, Radio and Online.

Hosted by HMDT and Novus, the leading prison education organisation, the event brought together distinguished guests, community representatives and educational partners, including Deputy Lieutenant of Greater Manchester Paul Griffiths DL, Esq, The Lord Mayor of Greater Manchester, Councillor Carmine Grimshaw and Holocaust survivor Anne Super.

Yisrael Abelesz was just 14 years old when he was deported to Auschwitz-Birkenau, the most infamous of all Nazi camps. Whilst there he escaped selection for the gas chambers and survived typhoid and a death march.
